SKIPTON BY-ELECTION
HEW PARTY'S SECOND SUCCESS LONDON. January 10. The new Common Wealth political' party gained its second success at the polls when Lieutenant H. Lawsori won the Skiptor by-election by a narrow majority owr the Conservative candidate. The Independent candidate forfeited his ceposit. The by-election resulted fron the death of Mr G. W. Rickards (Con.), who had a majority of 5,059 o'er the Laibour candidate at the last ebction. " The Snpfcon by-election result was a shock to the Conservative candidate's supporter*," says 'The Times.' "The Skipton electors turned' out to a greater extent than at any other byelection for a long time,_ and generally shoiwed lothing but gratitude and honour to M - Churchill as the uation'6 wa,r leader. Be, however, appeared to electors in a. different light as leader of the Coniervative Party. There is unquestionl'bly strong dissatisfaction with the Go\miment's domestic record and ■preparations for pe-aee."
