RUGBY IN CAIRO
NEW ZEALANDERS BEATEN IN THRILLING GAME \ (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.) CAIRO, January 4. The highlight of Cairo's New Year sports carnival was a thrilling Rugby match between a New Zealand base team and a South African division fifteen. Also on the. two-day programme were, an international " Socfer" match, in' which Egypt beat Britain, and an - American baseball match. The South Africans beat the Now Zealanders by 12 points to 11. in a match in which there was not a" dull moment, and in the last few minutes the New Zealanders were unlucky not to turn defeat into victory. The South Africans had the advautage in tho set scrums and more cohesion among the .backs. Each side scored two tries, the New Zealand scorers being Nicholson and Delamere, who were outstanding throughout. Smith converted one try and' kicked a penalty goal. South Africa's other points came from two penalty goals. Dummct, the South African half-back, was the star of the game, and ranla with the' best.
El Alamein ground was unable to hold the large crowd which gathered to Witness the game
