SITTING OF APPEAL BOARD The No. XL Armed Forces Appeal Board —'Messrs D. C. Cameron (oliairman), W. Clarke, and C. V. Smith—sat yesterday to hear appeals against service with the forces. The following appeals were adjourned sine die: —'New Zealand 'Wax Vesta Company <Ltd. for M. J. Dickie, faotory hand ; Parker and Keane Ltd. for M. Corlet, electrical foreman; Turnbull and Jones Ltd. for S. F. Chalmers, manager; Mitchell Bros, for E. J. Paterson and I, J. Rudhill, carpenters; Vacuum Oil Proprietary Company Ltd. for C. H. Croft, technical engineer; Napier Motors Ltd. for T. E. H. Godfrey,' motor mechanic; Waterfront Controller for E. K. A. Joyce, waterside worker. Release from camp was recommended in respect, of the following appeals:—W. B. Quennell and Sons for F. G. Thorn, bricklayer; J. Eustace and Son .Ltd. for J. Amalfitano, canister maker; Mrs I. E. Finnie for J. D. Bacon, mechanic-driver; J. Donaldson for E. J. Donaldson (W.A.A.C).
The following appeals for postponement of service or release from camip were dismissed :—Whitcombe and Tombs Ltd. for J. T. E. Witchalls, manager; Mrs N. L. J. Nelson for G. G. D. Nelson, farm hand; Mrs R. Gavegen for A. Gavegan, stitcher operator. The appeal of the Union Steam Ship Company Ltd. for J. Ediwards, stevedore and foreman rigger, was dismissed, this being a confirmation of a previous decision of the board Extension of leave was recommended in the appeal of Donaghy's Rope and Twine Company Ltd. for J. A. Sell, flaxcutter. In the appeal of the New Zealand Wax Vesta Company Ltd. for L. P. Barnett, engineer, the board decided that the reservist should remain with the company pending a replacement being obtained. Appeals against Territorial training were allowed as follows: Coulls Somerville Wilkie Ltd. for M. A. Friend, lithographer; J F Freeman, shepherd (own appeal); Ernest Adams Ltd. for I. Hoddiug, foreman baker; B. Gunn, farm hand (own appeal) ;.W. E. G. McDowell' for R. Wilkinson, transport driver, and for J. J. Semple, truck driver.
