FREE AMBULANCE TRANSPORT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—l desire to arouse a public interest in connection with a free ambulance transport in this city. The public will no doubt remember that when the Social Security Act was introduced they were promised free transport to and from hospitals. Under the existing system we find that all transported patients pay their own transport, with the exception of only the few who come under charitable aid and perhaps a few war and aged pensioners, whose accounts the Ambulance Association does generously write off owing to certain financial circumstances. Being a member of the ambulance transport service, one docs come in contact with a considerable amount of comment concerning the patients' payment of transport, but unfortunately nothing seems to be getting done about the matter; at least not until the public get together and demand the free service they are entitled to get by legislation, bearing in mind that social security tax now being paid is supposed to cover transport.—l am, etc., Interested.
