STRANDED TRAWLER
SOUVENIR HUNTERS WARNED At low tide it is possible to walk oufl to the steam trawler Hananui 11., which, went ashore in (Ryan's Bay, on the sea-, ward side of Otago Peninsula, on De» cember 2, and already souvenir hunters havo been at work on the stranded vessel, from which several articles of ralua have been removed. The police pointi out that persons detected in this practice are liable to prosecution not only! on charges of theft, but possibly also for; breaches of the Customs Act, as titer trawler, having been built overseas, incorporates in its construction much! material on which no Customs duty haa been paid. Attempts to refloat the Hananui were made several days after she was stranded, but these were discontinued. The interested parties' are awaiting further instructions as to the ultimate, fate of the vessel.
