CHAMPIONSHIP CROQUET
SOUTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT
The second round of tile championship doubles was concluded yesterday afternoon in the South Island croquet tournament, and a commencement was made with the handicap doubles, aud the championship and handicap singles. The interest which is being taken" in the tourney was illustrated fby the large number of spectators at both the Watea and Leith lawns. Results:— CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES.
Second Round.—Mesdames Rhodes (Leith) and Newall (St. Clair) 26 beat Mesdames Whitfield and Boiiai- (Christchurch) 20, Colonel Beamish and Mrs. Palmer (Christchurch) 26' beat Mesdames Grant and Middleton (Christchurch) 10. HANDICAP DOUBLES.

Several exciting I finishes marked the conclusion of the secoud round this morning of the handicap doubles in the South Island Croquet chaniipionships, which were continued on the Watea and Leith lawns. Their condition was again last, but more judgment was displayed than in the opening matches yesterday in obtaining their measure.
