COMMUNITY SING
There was a good attendance at the weekly siiig, held in the Strand Theatre to-day. Tne leader was Mr H. P. Desinouhns. Mr J. F. .Hifaburg' assisting, with Mr Alf. Petlitt at Ahe piano. The. singing was of a high standard, the outstanding numbers being; 'When' the Lights Go On Again All Over the World,' ' Nellie Kelly,' and ' Rule Britannia.' Brigadier H. C. Goffhi, of the Solvation Army, was heard in 'Good Old Ariny' and ' Something in iljs Qpftn Air,' and was warmly applauded. Ha thanked the committee for its generous support in arranging the "sing" for the Salvation Army Sweet Day appeal, feevcral articles wei'e sold, including tho balance of the "utility hats" donated by Mr Joe Brown. The committee is very grateful to listeners and those attending the sing for the dpnatibns for 'A Prayer For Airmen.' Those who wish may obtain a copy of the words from the committee or secretary. Donations (also from last week) and promises were: £5 each from "Weekly, «.E.. (Roslyn); £1 . each from F.A. (Owaka), " Wellwisber" (N.E.V. "Anonymous" (Waihemo), Airman, tSeott 'street, J. C. Rigby; 10s each from Mrs Jialcpm, "Anonymous'' (Moonlight), H.L. (Balclulha), "Qraleful," J. W. Bow<ten (Ashburton); 5s each from Sam D. Corston (Milton), Edenvale; 3s from Normanby (weekly). . . Flowers and goods were donated by Mrs I. 0. McGeorge (weekly), Miss Artlett (weekly), Mrs J. Brown (dolfs), " Gran " (CbHstchurcliK Mrs Martin (Ross Home). Mesdames - Freeman, Qeeson, Hellyer, McQuire. Smeal, Smith. Weicks. Misses McLeod and Scott and Mr McKay. The collection amounted to £27.
