BOMBERS OVER FRANCE
HEAVY DAYLIGHT ATTACKS AIRFIELDS AND PLANE PLANTS THE TARGETS (IRec. 10 a.m.) -RUGBY,-'July 14. It is officially announced: "Strong formations of American Army 'Eighth Air Force heavy bombers and formations of R.A.F. fighter-bombers and light bombers attacked German aircraft installations in France to-day. The Fortresses bombed the aircraft repair and assembly plants at Villa Coublay, the aircraft, factory and park at he Bourget, and the airfield at Amiens. The bombing results were good on all three targets. Fighter opposition was encountered; .particularly by the formations attacking Le Bourget and Villa Coublay." Early, but.' incomplete, reports 1 claim that over 15 enemy fighters were destroyed by the Fortresses. Typhoons attacked, airfields at Abbeville and Triqueville. (R.A.F. and dominion flyers destroyed three FockeWulf 109's. Thunderbolts escorted one Fortress over, its target, also destroying three Focke-Wulf 109's. Eight bombers and four fighters are missing. A Coastal Command Beaufighter today shot down an H.E. 11l over the North Sea. The enemy aircraft was last seen diving into the sea, breaking into bits as it went down.
