INDIA'S FOOD SHORTAGE
MEASURES TO COUNTER HOARDING (Rec. noon.) RUGBY, Julv 14. The Government of India's policy in meeting the present difficult food situation and the resulting rise in prices was founded on the.division of the country into regions with a view to the transfer of supplies from surplus areas-to those where there was a deficit, the Secretary of Stato for India, ulr L. o. Wry 'told the House of Commons. The measures were not wholly successful, and consequently the Government of Tiidia had called an All-India food conference early last month. Ihe conference's recommendations, which weis 'being acted upon, included an early extension of rationing, control of stocks to counter hoarding, and the.procurement of surpluses by the Government.
