BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

U. COUNCIL TO DECIDE Whether a New Zealand championship bowling tournament will be held next January is to be decided at a special meeting of the council of the New Zealand Bowling Association in Wellington on July 30. The tournament, which is the occasion for the gathering of hundreds of players, is usually held in each of the four main centres in rotation. The 1942 tournament was to have been held in Duuedin, but the extension of tho war to the Pacific and the Government's request that travel should be avoided caused tho tournament to be abandoned at the 'last moment. This year's tournament also was abandoned for similar reasons.

At a meeting in May of the executive of the association, which still has its headquarters in Dunedin, tho chairman, Mr J. Forster, said there wore a number of diffu culties to be faced in connection with the tournament, and he thought (hat the full council should be given an opportunity of hearing the views of the executive on the subject and those of other councillors. The chairman's suggestion that a meeting be held was adopted after that proposal had found support from councillors in correspondence. Besides the question of holding the tournament the meeting will have before it matters of general business submitted by the executive and any urgent or-important subjects submitted by councillors. The meeting is to bo confined- to one day.
