FIVE CANDIDATES
CHRISTCHURCH EAST SEAT (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Jan. 22. There will be five candidates in the Christchurch East by-election following the death of the Hon. H. T. Armstrong. Nominations closed at noon to-day, and those received are:— Mabel Howard (Labour). M. E. Lyons (National). H. E. Herring (Democratic Labour 1 ). O. J. F. McKee (Independent Socialist) . L. A. Efford (Peace candidate). W. Julius Hyde, of Wellington, will not go to the poll. He called on the returning officer just before the nominations closed to advise him that he would not be standing as an Independent, as his two nominators were not forthcoming.
