Word has been received that Captain Harold Service is a prisoner of war in Singapore. Some years ago Captain Service was a well-known Otago and University Club footballer. He was a mining engineer overseas before the war. '

Mr C. V. Smith, of Dunedin, was reelected president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation at the annual conference of the federation in Christchurch yesterday.’ Mr I. Matheson was re-elected vice-president, and Mr J. Abel treasurer.
