OBITUARY
MR HUGH PATERSON Last week (he death of Mr Hugh Pate*, sou occurred at the age of 68 years. H* was unmarried, and was a highly-respected citizen. A master tailor by occupation, Mr Paterson was associated with the activi. ties of the Otago Centre ot the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association from its inception some 30 years ago, and held office as a vice-president, being made a life member in recognition of his services. He was also a member of the Council of the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association, and acted as a judge over a long period. Son of Captain Hugh Paterson, who wai m the service of the Union Steam Ship Company for many years, Mr Paterson was a keen sailing and power boat enthusiast, and the success of the regattas which wer* held at Purakanui was a tribute to hi» untiring efforts. He was interested in tho activities of various Scottish organisations, being one of the original members of th* Highland Rifles. During his association, with the Gaelic Society he held the position of chieftain at one period.
