ARMY TRUCK HITS TREE
11 SOLDIERS SUSTAIN INJURIES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 9. . Eleven soldiers were injured, one fairly seriously, when an Army troop truck hit a tree in Franklin road, Ponsonby, late this afternoon. All the occupants were taken to the Auckland Hospital, but only five were admitted, the others being discharged after treatment at the casualty ward. The truck was extensively damaged. Those admitted to hospital wore Private M. V, Richardson, who suffered concussion and was in a fairly serious condition: Private T. H. Broome, internal injuries; Private A. A. Glanvil'.e, a fractured pelvis; Private A. E. Irving, a fractured pelvis; and Lancecorporal T. Kerr, concussion. The last four men are not seriously ill. Tho truck was proceeding up Franklin road! towards Pohsonby road. It struck the tree head on and the engine and driving cabin were extensively damaged. Such was the violence of the impact that the steering column was badly bent and the steering wheel was broken at the bottom. Some of the woodwork of the frame was also splintered.
