THE LIQUOR LAWS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l quite agree with “ Soldier ” and “ Another Soldier ” as to the lawlessness of “ the trade.” Why is it that publicans can tlout the law and sell drink after hours and on Sundays? 1 have seen men entering hotels and coming out with parcels and stepping into cars on Sundays—“ business as usual.” There are 'inspectors on the watch for grocers to see if their premises are closed on time; why not have some inspectors to visit the hotels between 6 o’clock and midnight to see what customers are in the bars ? Sir Stafford Cripps in his speech said: “There remain a minority who regard their personal interests in a manner not consonant with totality of the effort required, and create and spread a sense of frustration and disappointment, and who must be dealt with ruthlessly whenever and wherever it occurs.” Are not the evils I have mentioned liable to assist to defeat our war effort?— I am, etc.. Sobriety. March 5.
