BIRTHS APPROACH 1881 RECORD A big increase is recorded in births for the year, although for the month a decrease is shown. This year’s figures are tho highest since 1881. Deaths show an increase, too, and the yearly total is the highest since 1918. Marriages are down for the year, this being undoubtedly attributable to the war. The following are the statistics for December, those for the corresponding period of last year being given_ in parentheses;—Births, 153 (170); deaths, 104 (88); marriages. 119 (114). The figures for the year are: Births, 1,820 (1,633); deaths, 1,124 (1,037); marriages, 8(38 (1,017).,
