MILK DELIVERIES

ZONING TO BE INTRODUCED The zoning of milk delivery is to take place in Dunedin as from February 1 next, this decision being reached by a fully representative gathering of milk vendors at a meeting in the R.S.A. Hall last night. The object of the meeting was to consider ways and moans of conserving petrol, and Air W. A. Powell, Wellington, representing the oil fuel controller, attended. The Transport Department was also represented. After a full discussion the principle of zoning was carried almost unanimously, and the following committee was set up to draft a zoning scheme for the approval of vendors :■ —Messrs T. 1). Dalziel, J. A. Alilburn, A. L. Bain, A. Rogers, G. Butler, A. Kennedy, D. Borland, and P. Hollyer. There were about 80 vendors present, including tho three companies, the latter agreeing upon the working of a zoning system themselves, so that tho public will still have the choice of- raw or pasteurised milk. It was pointed out at the meeting that many towns in New Zealand are at present operating under a zoning scheme, and in each case the public had been satisfied with deliveries. Moreover, upwards of CO per cent, of the petrol used normally in deliveries had been saved. It was also stated that the public would have no choice of vendors, but would have to accept the milk delivered by tradesmen in their particular zone. The only choice would be of raw or pasteurised milk.
