GALLANTRY AND DETERMINATION FIGHTING IN EASTERN TOBRUK SECTOR (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 11.15 a.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 14. A British General Headquarters Cairo communique states: On the night of October 12-13 a Polish patrol again successfully raided an enemy strong point outside the eastern sector of our perimeter defence at Tobruk. In the close fighting which ensued the Poles showed great gallantry and dctcrmina-. tion, accounting for 20 enemy dead, while they themselves sustained only four casualties. During yesterday a heavy dust storm interfered with further operations, both at Tobruk and in the frontier area, although in the latter zone our mobile artillery successfully engaged a number of targets. R.A.F. COMMUNIQUE. A Middle East R.A.F. communique states: Objectives in Libya were raided by R.A.F. aircraft and naval aircraft on the night of October 12-13. In the frontier area enemy fortified positions were bombed in co-operation with our artillery, while at Gazala fires were started south of the landing ground and the ammunition dumps at Dorna, where two attacks were carried out.

On patrol over shipping off North Africa on October 12 our fighters severely damaged a Ju SB. From these operations all our aircraft returned safely.
