COURSING
NOTES AND COMMENTS [By Blumpton.] Christchurch Club Doings. r l he Christchurch Coursing Club has hold sonic very successful fixtures after making a late start, greater support being accorded lhau has been the case in the past. The club has been ably led by Mr D. H. Cave (president) and Mr A. T. Muir (secretary), who have been associated with its activities for many years. The club’s enclosure at Sockburn has never been in better order for coursing. The hares have raced exceptionally well, and have proved more than a match for the dogs, who, taken all round, have been above those seen out during the last few seasons. Mi' Cave has acted as judge, and Mr V. Neale as slipper. At a recent, mooting the open stako was won by Mr J. liiack’s consistent fawn dog Power Chief (Electric Hope—Rahpipay). who beat Ben Nevis (Great .Slain—Everlast) in the final. Ben Nevis showed much pace, but could not keep out the aged dog, Power .Chief, who won comfortably. The possibilities of the progeny of that good fast dog of a. few sesnous back, Claggon Boy (Bead On —El Dorado), being endowed with pace, cleverness, ami gamouess were exemplified by the manner in which Claggon Prince won the maiden stake at the same meeting from Lightning Lady, a nicely-developed fawn bitch of 16 months, by Electric, Chimes (Electric Hope—Rahplpay) from that one-time brilliant performer and Waterloo Cup winner, Kl. Dorado (Gilfillin —Dorado). The winner’s style of racing very much resembles that of his sire. His performance suggests a bright, future. Incidentally, Claggon Prince is the first of Claggon Boy’s stock to race. During the season Mr A. Downing's dogs. Electric Chimes and Satin King (Satin Boy —Bahpipay), raced below their usual standard. This is accounted for by reason of the fact that their owner has not bad the time to give them the required amount of solid training, grossness in coUdilion being the result. Should Mr Downing get a little time to spare on them both these dogs will come to hand quickly, for both are fast, clever, and game when in form. The veteran courser, Mr P. Ruddy, produced his. handsome dog, The Miner (Lead On—El Dorado), in the pink of condition at the recent meeting, but the going was nob at ail in bis favour, although lie exhibited the family pace in the lead up to the hare. There is no doubt about the ability of this dog as regards speed.’
