FATALITY FOLLOWS FAMILY

THIRD DROWNING TRAGEDY (P.A.) WHANGAREI, Oct. 4. The accidental drowning of Private James Wesley Lee, son of Mr W. J. Lee, of Whangarei, was officially notified yesterday in a message conveyed personally bv the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones’) in a telephone conversation with the Whangarei area officer, who undertook to deliver the news of hia son’s death to the bereaved mother. Poignancy is added by the fact that Private Lee is the third of three brothers, all volunteers with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, to have lost his life in this way. Just a year ago the two younger brothers, Privates Richard and William Lee, were accidentally drowned through misadventure on the Nile. No details of the latest tragedy are available, except that it occurred on September 30. It is presumed, however, that Private Lee was involved in the rescue of some New Zealand soldiers who were caught in the undertow when bathing on a Mediterranen beach.
