MEDICAL SCHEME.

' TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —When “ John Gilpin ” endeavoured to reply to my letter he side-stepped tho issue and started abusing tho Government and casting insinuations at the wharf workers. He calls me a class-conscious writer and a whiner. I think this is a case of tho boot being on the wrong foot. He refers to tho Government at the last election promising tho people free medical service and not giving it to them; then he accuses the Government of using tho big stick. I agree that it should havo put the Bill through long ago, but how can ho accuse the Government of using the big stick when it has been negotiating with the doctors for nearly three years P If Mr M. J. Savage had been alive tho Bill would have. gone through long' ago. “ John Gilpin ” wants to know, if the doctors are successfully coerced by the Government, will they receive overtime rates in proportion to, say, the wharf workers. . If he makes a few inquiries at the Kensington Drill Hall he might be able to find out what the doctors get for a few hours overtime at night examining soldiers, but I would advise him not to tell the wharf workers; they might want to - change their occupations. There are a few vacancies at the wharf just now. How about bis having ago at it and getting the big money; one thing, be will have to take bis coat .off down there to earn it.—l am, etc., Democrat.
