ANNUAL CROSS-COUNTRY RAGES FAST TIDES SECOMIED A field of 65 starters competed yesterday in the John M'Glashan College cross-country championship over a course of from to 4 miles, extending from Pilkington street via Cannington road across the Balmacewen golf links, thence into Kaikorai Valley, up Shetland street to Wakari, and home along Balmacewen road. A splendid performance was pub up by J. Russell, off 7min, who caught the leaders early and was thereafter never seriously challenged, winning comfortably by 300yds from W. Macdonald (6min) and M. Cruickshank (smin), formerly of Glasgow. These three filled tho placings both in the open and junior school races, the winner’s tune being 25min 40scc. The first senior to arrive home was- R. Owen, off 6niin, who was followed closely by a backmarker in G. G. H. Irvine, and then D. S. Reid. Owen’s time was 24min 12sgc. The favourable weather ' conditions resulted in fast times being recorded, particularly bv G. G. H. Irvine, who came home in ISinin 39see to gain fastest time and Ui-i senior championship, carrying with it the Groensiade Cup. L.
