APPEAL BOARD

FURTHER GASES HEARD Further appeals were dealt with by the Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday afternoon. The board, comprised Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. (chairman), and Messrs J. Price and H. Hodgson. Appeals by the New Zealand Refrigerating Company Ltd. on behalf of Edward Lawrence Gale and Wallace Giles (chain slaughterman), and Harold Rhind (a wool puller and classer) were adjourned sine die on condition that they were transferred to the Territorial Forces and served during the off season (July to November). An appeal on behalf of William Ronald M'Vie (an engine driver) was adjourned sine die. An appeal by the Director of National Service on behalf of Kenneth Douglas Adams, a radio technician, was adjourned sine die, on condition that he joined the Territorial Forces. Appeals on behalf of five railway porters—John Robert Middlemiss, Alwyn John Joseph Hughes, Michael John Fahey, and Francis Farrar Smith—were lodged by the Director of National Service.—The" appeals were adjourned sine die on condition that the appellants were transferred to the Territorial Forces. An appeal by Hugh Scott Hannah, a farm employee, in whose case a sine die adjournment had been granted six months previously, was reviewed, and a further adjournment sine die was granted, on condition that the appellant continued his training with the Territorial Forces. An appeal on behalf of James Vogan Kerr, a farmer, was lodged by his mother, Margaret Jane Kerr, on the ground of public interest and undue hardship.—The appeal was adjourned sine die on condition that the appellant transferred to the Territorial Forces. An appeal on behalf of Colin Dickson. a dairy farmer, on the ground of public interest, was lodged by the Primary Production Council. —The appeal was dismissed on condition that the appellant was not called up before December 31.—An appeal on behalf of Gilbert Burns Crawford, also a dairy farmer, was adjourned sine die.
