STORM DAMAGE. The main trunk railway line is now open. The Limited from Auckland this morning did not come past Paekakariki, passengers being transferred to buses and arriving here at 11. Unless further slips occur no further dislocation of the services is expected. Continued rain has wrought havoc throughout Wellington and suburbs. The public expenditure will run into thousands of pounds to put matters to right, and to this has to be added thousands more suffered on private properties. DOCTOR SERVICE COST £1,400,000 YEARLY. It was announced in the House of Representatives to-day. by the Minister of Health, Mr Nordineycr, that the latest amendments to the Social Security Act dealing with the general practitioner service would involve an additional expenditure of £200,000 over the original estimate. This, he explained, would bring the total estimated cost of the general practitioner service up to £1,400,000 u year. SOCIAL SECURITY AMENDMENT PASSES.
