ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE
SUSPENDED SENTENCE (P. 1.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 8. A sentence of 14 days’ detention wa« the penalty imposed by the district court martial on Private Arthur Devlin* of Burnham mobilisation camp, who last Monday was charged with desertion. The officer commanding the district (Brigadier Mead) has ordered th» suspension of the sentence, but it will be reviewed, . within, three months. Devlin was charged with desertion in that he absented himself without leave from 10 p.m. on the night of embarkation of troops for overseas and remained absent until he returned to camp six days later.
