BRIGHTON AMENITIES
SOCIETY'S ACTIVITIES Tlie annual meeting of Hie Brighton Advancement and Amenities Society was held at Brighton on Saturday last, the president (Mr G. W. Bush) being in the chair. The annual report of the executive stated that,.though the period under review had not offered the best conditions owing to the war, the society could show a credit balance, even after heavy expenditure during the year. Receipts had fallen considerably, thus curtailing the amount of money available. After writing off depreciation, the booh value of the society’s property was £1,211 7s. During the year heavy expense was mot in altering the picture projection room to accommodate two machines and complying with Government regulations as regards the exhibition of cinematograph films. Free use of the hall for patriotic functions had considerably reduced the hall rents for the year. The balance sheet showed a surplus of assets over liabilities of £1,281 16s 3d. A donation of £lO was made to the local Patriotic Committee early in the year. The patron, Mr J. Allan, moving tho adoption of the balance sheet, congratulated the executive on its success, which, he said, showed careful attention to the affairs of the society. Referring to the discharge of the hall mortgage, Mr Allan said it must he gratifying to all that the whole of the society’s property was now clear of debt, and that its efforts could now be utilised more in the direction of improving tho amenities of the district than previously.
Tbe following officers were elected for the ensuing year;—Patron, Mr J. Allan; president, Mr G. W. Bush; vice-presidents, Messrs D. L. M‘Coll and R. Lobb; secretary and treasurer, Mr .1. Blackio; auditor, Mr D. M. Irvine; committee—Messrs G. Stevenson, W. Coutts, C. W. Eraser, If. Gaults, J. Stevenson, and .7. Alee.
