PETROL FOR PLEASURE CRAFT
LIMITED ALLOWANCE FOR SEASON REDUCTION OF FORTY PER GENT. (Special.) ; WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. “ A limited amount of petrol will be made available for pleasure craft. ’ said the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, in a statement made to-day in connection with the approaching boating season. “It is difficult to anticipate the future petrol position,” he said, “ but 1 feel that, so long as we are able to give petrol to private motorists, a limited amount should be made available to yachtsmen. Under the circumstances 1 have approved of the same quantities of petrol being issued to launch owners as last year, but subject to the percentage reductions which apply to private motorists. On this basis, therefore, a reduction of 40 per cent, will be made to each of the groups in the schedule used last year I fully realise that this will considerably restrict the use of pleasure craft, particularly when compared with their activities before the war, but I have no doubt that all concerned will realise the necessity for these measures and accept them in the right spirit.”
