THE MEDICAL SCHEME.

CO rue EDITOR, Sir, —The meetings being held throughout New Zealand protesting against the Doctors’ Bill are in my opinion not in good taste. The majority of the people in this country voted in favour of the present Government, and in doing so expect the Opposition to support all measures introduced no matter whose toes are trod on. When the National Party was in power was our voice ever raised in opposition to its policies? Did we not as law-abiding citizens give it our undivided support, no matter how irksome or disastrous its legislation might be? Why should the doctors be consulted? Did Hitler consult tho German people before plunging them into war? I feel sure if at next General Election the National Party wins and it decides to veto the Doctors’ Bill not one single protest will come from our side, and if drastic measures are to bo taken with the Carpenters’ Union or railway . hands which might seriously affect their living will they protest? Certainly not.—l am, etc., ' Ned Kelly. September 30.

TO THE EDXTOH. Sir.—Why should not the doctors tell the Government that they will agree to the provisions of the Bill amending the Social Security Act provided it introduces' legislation to impose identical conditions upon all the workers of the .country, these cohdi-' tions being the alternative of compulsory work or unemployment, wages and conditions under absolute control of a Minister, and no right of arbitration? Then, when the loud laughter and strikes are over, an intelligent conception of equity and justice might be reached.—l am, etc.^ Freedom. October 1.
