SCENIC BEAUTIES
MEASURES TO PROTECT FIORDLAND (Special.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. The provisions previously made by Parliament, to safeguard the scenic beauties along the route of Te AnauMilford Sound road are being extended by a clause in the Lands Disposal Bill to the large area known as the Sounds or Fiordland National Park. This clause provides that the GovernorGeneral may from time to time by Order in Council declare all or any of the provisions to be applicable to any portion of National Park, Homer Tunnel. The Milford Sound road will probably be completed and opened for traffic in the near future, and it is considered desirable that the department should before that time arrives be placed in a stronger position, so far . as. safeguarding the reserves is concerned than it is at present. , . , The 'clause also provides, for the appointment of honorary rangers.
