HANDICAPPING MAIDEN PERFORMERS South Island handicappors are very loth to lake any chances when framing their handicaps for maiden races. In the Trial Handicap, lo bo run an the opening day of the Dunedin Spring meeting, the handicapper has made a difference of only Sib between what ho considers the best and worst. Including the three unnamed candidates, four others, Boucant, Happy Feet, Helpmate, and Spot Cash, have been awarded 8.6 in a race in which the conditions provide for a 7.7 minimum. And ■it is interesting Lo note the performances of the others which have also been allotted this impost. Abdicate has started twice (his season, unplaced in both starts. Attorney raced once, this season, twice last season, all unplaced. Berrlma, four times last season, all unplaced. Chandelier three times last season, all unplaced. Decamp once this season, unplaced. Irish Ruler four times last season, ail unplaced. Lady Nuffield three times last season, all unplaced. Light Cavalry once this season, unplaced. Miss Sally once last once this season, both unplaced.
