SITTING OF MAN POWER COMMITTEE The Dunedin Man Power Committee —Messrs D. O. Cameron (chairman), O. V. Smith, and W. R. Clarke—Sat yesterday to consider a number of appeals against Tersttorial service on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. Radiation (N.Z.) Ltd. appealed on behalf of T. P. CoMins, a storeman, on the grounds of public interest. —The appeal was dismissed subject to Collins not being called before November 30. An appeal by O. H. farmer, of Allanton, on behalf of his son, J. Thomson, on the grounds of undue hardship, was withdrawn subject to his not being called before December 31. J. Sparrow and Sons Ltd. asked for an extension of (three months for 1. F. M'lver, an apprentice boilermaker. —The application was granted. The Henley Co-operative Dairy factory Ltd. appealed on behalf of L. G. Kloogh, a cheese factory worker. —The appeal was dismissed subject to Kloocrh’s not being called before March 31, 1942. x , T An appeal by the Director of National Service in respect of A. 1 • Byers a technical trainee in the National Broadcasting. Service, was adjourned to December 31. , . Ross and Glendining Ltd. asked tor an extension of three months for T. W. Morris, a boot operator, on the grounds of 'public interest. —The extension tb" December 31 was granted. An extension to December 31 was granted to A. J. Mliloul 1, a _ hairdresser, oh,whose behalf F. Restieaux, a hairdresser, appealed on the grounds of undue hardship. An application for an extension of six months for J. Fahy, an apprentice engineer, .on the grounds of public interest. was made by G. Methven and Co. Ltd., and granted. The New Zealand Express Company Ltd. asked for an extension of three months for L. C. Burtenshaw, a forwarding clerk, on the grounds of undue hardship.—The application was granted. An , extension to October 10 was granted to G. E. Cooper, a storeman, on whose behalf Sargood. Son. and Ewen Ltd., applied, on the grounds of public interest. Sargood, Son, and Ewen Ltd". also appealed for exemption fbr.C. J. Parker, a clicker, on the grounds of public interest.—This appeal was adjourned to December 3J. An application by John M’Gregor and Co. on behaflf of Hugh Reid, a moulder, on the grounds of public interest, was adjourned to December 31. Vernon Smith Ltd. applied for an extension of six months for C, Powell, ou the grounds of undue hardship.— An extension of- three months, to December 31. was planted. An application by Hinton’s Orchards Ltd. for an extension to March, 1942. for H. G. Hinton, on the grounds of undue hardship, was dismissed. An application by G.. J. Nash, contractor, on behalf of A. W. Scott, a labourer, on the _ grounds of undue hardship, was dismissed. Dickinson Mitton Ltd., manufacturers, appealed against service with a Territorial cadre for R. A. W. Lang, a metal worker, on the grounds of public interest.—The appeal was allowed. An application by Austin Motors Ltd. for an extension of one month for P. A. King, a garage storeman, on the grounds of undue hardship, was granted. An appeal by J. Houston, a butcher, on behalf of W. M. Muir, against service with a Territorial cadre on the grounds of undue hardship, was allowed". 1 An appeal against service with a Territorial cadre by H. A. Roberts on the grounds of undue hardship was dismissed.
