The death has occurred of Sir Herbert Holt, aged 85, the financier who once controlled 250 companies with assets totalling 2,000,000,000d01. [Sir Herbert was born in County Kildare, Ireland, and was educated in Dublin. He became a member of the American and Canadian Societies of Civil Engineers, and was engaged for some years on engineering and construction of the Canadian Pacific railway, Calgary and Edmonton railway, Regina and Long Lake railway, and several other railways in Canada and the United States. He was chairman of the Royal Bank of Canada (Montreal) and the Montreal Light, Heat, and Power Company, president of the Montreal Trust Company, and vicepresident of the Dominion Textile Company Ltd. and Montreal Cottons Ltd.]
