GOOD SPORT PROMISED

ANGLING SEASON OPENING TROUT STREAMS WELL STOCKED Recent week-end weather has at least been ideal for sitting indoors and furbishing fishing gear for the coming season, and anglers will be well prepared for to-morrow and the days that follow. Transportation is going to be the big problem this year, and it is a matter for somo‘ satisfaction that nearby waters are in good order and well stocked with fish. Tomahawk Lagoons, the Waipori River and Lake, the Mahinerangi dam, and the contour channel will bo favourite spots, and they are all ready for immediate fishing. Handy to the rail, the Waiwera and Waipahi are in great order, _ and will continue so as long as there is no substantial rain near the headwaters. In Central Otago Lake Onslow offers attractive sport, and the Upper Taieri should be consistent. The Hawea, Wanaka, and Upper Clutha are well stocked with good fish. The only drawback evident last week was the strong northerly, and that is likely to be of so long a duration as to spoil tho sport for nest week-end.

The over-popular Shag and Pomahaka are in groat order. Most of the weed that was the bugbear on' the former last year has been flushed out by the early spring fresh, and good fish have been seen. The Pomahaka is in better first-of-season order than, for many years, with a normal level. The water in the Waikouaiti is still discoloured. . Going south, the Mataura is still discoloured but quite fishable. The Waimahaka and the Tokaanu are in good order. The Mimihau and the Wyndhain arc a little higher than usual, but dear. The Tahakopa, Owaka. and Gatlins are all in excellent order.
