CHRISTMAS APPEAL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—The Christmas season is with us again. What does it mean? Just this; that everyone thinks out how much he can give to make somebody else happy. That is the example Jesus Christ set for us to follow—by giving not only what one has no use for, but at some sacrifice that makes one feel one has done something really worth while. There is no better object one could help than by giving to this much-needed and appreciated work of providing a temporary home for children of sick mothers in poor circumstances, of all denominations. We provided for 168 such children last year. Every Christmas wo give one day’s outing at Tahuna Park to all the children (with their parent) who have been under our care during the year, and what a jolly time they have I Would readers like to join with us in giving such pleasure this Christmas and' assistance for general purposes? The Otago Hospital has taken our home in lloslyn under the War [Regulations Act for the duration of the war for a returned soldiers’ hospital. We board all the children out in registered homes, where they receive every care and attention while their mother is’ill, and we find this is proving most satisfactory. We pay 15s per week for every child boarded out. We realise everyone is called upon to sacrifice time and money to help win the war, and will appreciate your kindness in assisting our work. Our needs are money donations (children’s clothing urgently needed), toys, and suitable gifts for a picnic. Wishing ail our kind donaters a prosperous and happy Christmas, with gratitude for past favours, we are, etc., Y. Tate (Matron). S._ Dunkley (Manager). P.S.—Donations may be left at the office. 114 Moray Place (next Public Library), or ring - 13-049 and a collector will call. September 29.
