PATRIOTIC CONCERT

KARITANE MAORI PARTY RELIEF OF DISTRESS So great a success was the first concert some weeks ago of' the Karitanc Maori Party in aid of the relief of distress in Great Britain fund that it was decided to present another in the Concert Chamber last night, and it proved just as popular as tho first. The audience enjoyed every item on the lengthy programme, and the sum of over £lO4 was raised. The party gave as its principal item a bracket of patriotic songs, featuring the popular ‘ Let’s Get Together, ’ which symbolises the determination of Groat Britain and tho United States of America to win the. war and the friendship between the two nations. Mr M. Taiaroa was the chairman for the concert, which was organised by Mr J. F. Himburg, and Mrs Bob Parata was the pianist. The Muriel Caddie Piano-ac-cordion Band presented items prior to the commencement of the concert and during tho interval. Besides the special stage presentation tho items given by the entire party wore a war song and haka entitled ‘ Whakapapa Noa Mai 1 ; action songs —‘ Haero Mai e Nga Iwi,’ ‘ Kia Ora Huirapa,’ 1 Aue Aue te Mamae,’ ‘ Auc, Mama,’ ‘ Uia Mai,’ ‘ Tuki-tuki,’ ‘ Powhiri,’ ‘ Papakura,’ ‘ Whakarongo Ako Au,’ and ‘Hci Aha Kei Taku Uma ’; a haka song, ‘ Pakia Kia Rite ’; a haka, ‘To Iwi e Ngunguru Nei ’; and two choruses, ‘ Po Atarau ’ and ‘ Arohanui.’ The selection of patriotic songs sung hy the party were the special ‘ Let’s Get Together.’ ‘ There’ll Always Be an England,’ and ‘ Maori Battalion.’ The girls of the party presented a poi dance and song, ‘ Haere ra e Hino Mo a’; a poi dance, ‘Hoki Hoki Tonn Mai ’; and a poi waka, long poi, and group poi. The warriors gave a haka, 1 Tau Ka Tan.’ Individual items were presented by Bongo and Mana To Tan (duet, ‘ Haere Ba ’). Ruti Hipi (song and chorus, ‘ E Pari Ra ’), Riki Te Tan (song, ‘ Haere Tonti ’)., and R. Parata,, (song ami chorus).
