WORKERS’ TRAINING SCHEME
EXTENSION OF FIELD (Special.) WELLINGTON, August 26. “ A scheme, is being developed,” states Mr Webb, Minister of Labour, “ to train workers in further branches of tho metal trade, including rolling mill operatives and machine and floor moulders. This is in addition to the schemes operated by the Dominion auxiliary of the workers’ training council for training in tho engineering, footwear, and building industries.” Expressing satisfaction with the results so far, Mr Webb stated that this had been shown in a practical way by employers who had granted auxiliary workers increases after only a brief trial period. The net result of the training efforts had been that all labour requirements for firms holding munitions contracts had been met. Adequate steps had been taken to increase the footwear output. A class for training carpenters starts in Wellington within a fortnight.
