MR W. EASTON RETIRES M W. R. SINCLAIR NEW MANAGER Following the resignation of Mr William Easton as general manager of the ‘ Otago Daily Times/ Mr W. 11. Sinclair, who has been accountant for the company for many years, has -been appointed general manager. Mr Easton lias been associated with the ‘ Otago Daily Times ’ for nearly 53 years. In accepting his resignation with regret, the directors of the company passed a resolution expressing their appreciation of a notable record of devoted service. Mr Easton joined the commercial staff of the paper after a short period with the Walton Park Coal Company, and rose to the positions of accountant, manager, and finally general manager on tire death of Sir George Fenwick in 1929. He has been chairman of the United Press Association of New Zealand, and represented New Zealand overseas as delegate to the Empire Press Union annual conventions in England and Honolulu. As a member of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of New Zealand ho, has served on several of its committees, and he has for a number of years boon a member of the committee of the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society. In the early days of Association football Mr Easton was a player, and he also played lawn tennis and bowls. Mr Sinclair’s entire business career lias been devoted to newspaper work. He has had a long period with the commercial staff of the ‘ Otago Daily Times,’ and as accountant for a number of years has been closely associated with both the literary and mechanical branches of newspaper production. His activities, past and present, include the following:—Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries, member of the board of directors of the Y.M.C.A., chairman of the Dunedin Community Sing Committee, member of llotary International, president of the Dunedin Competitions Society, deputy-conductor of tho Royal Dunedin Male Choir, a deacon and choirmaster of the United Congregational Church, president of tho Otago Lawn Tenuis Association and of the Kaituna and Waimana Lawn Tennis Clubs, and chairman of tho Otago Football Association. He was also an Association football representative player and referee, as well as a well-known lawn tennis player in the senior grade.
