EARLY SETTLERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the association was held yesterday afternoon, Messrs J. W. Patton (president), \V. J. Strong, it. T. Stewart, J. Dey, A. F. Cheync, F. A. Cheync, A. ji. Selby, J’. W. Knight, J. J'. Fraser, D. .7. Calder, G. C. Koberlson, C. Morris, and J' 1 . H. Campbell being present. The following gifts were received during the month: —From Miss F. G. Stanwood, of New York—pliotographs of her late grandparents,. Mr and Mrs W. Kennedy, of Dunedin (1869); from Miss J. Anderson, of Dunedin —framed portraits of her late parents, Mr and Mrs J. C. Anderson (father, 18617 ; from Mr G. A. Harlow, of Dunedin —copy of first lessons in Maori conversation; from Mr C. J. Wood, of Balclutha—medal of the Dunedin Exhibition, 1865, and collection of coins; from Mr and Mrs Hayward. of Dunedin —cabin dork of the Surat, which was wrecked near the Gatlins River, December 31, 1873; from Mrs C. Basirc — framed engravings of the Tararau and the Egmont, Panama mail steamers in the 18'60’s. The following deaths were recorded during the month; —Mrs Ormond, of Port Chalmers (about 1858); aged 98; Alex. Ford, of Pino Hill (Robert Henderson, 1858), aged 84; William Reid, of Littlcbonrne road, aged 87; Mrs W. Maxwell, of Waikonaiti (1860’s) ; Duncan M’Coll, of Timaru, late of Tapanui (1860’s), aged 89: Mrs Julia Crisp, of Tapanui (William Davie. 1868), aged 85. Throe life members were enrolled during Iho month—Miss M. Ross and Mrs J. A. D. Tverach. of Dunedin, father. Sir John Ross (Velorc, 1861), and Dr X. E. 11. Fulton, of Ashburton, grandfather (Ajax, 1849). Descendants who were enrolled during the month were:—Mrs G. 15. Grunt-Ussliov, of Long Bush (great grandparents, Philip Laing, 1848) ; Miss R. 1. La wson, of Dunedin (great grandfather, George Canning, 1857) : Dr W. NcwlnmK. of Dunedin (parents. ileleiislce, 1866) ; Mr W. H. Haigli, of North Taieri (father, I 860); Mr A. Ford, of Pleasant Point. Canterbury (fattier, Robert Hender.-.on, 1858) ; Miss J. Anderson, of Dunedin (fattier, 1861) ; Mr J. IT. White, of Tapanui (grandparents, Ajax, 7849); Mr .7.
