BEACH CONTROL

DOMAIN BOARD'S ANNUAL MEETING The Ocean Beach Domain Board held its annual meeting yesterday afternoon, the chairman for the previous year (Mr J. Wilson) being re-elected. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Mr Wilson stated that as soon as the steel, was available the extension of the protective wall at St. Glair would be proceeded with. Tho motion was' seconded by Mr Marlow, who expressed pleasure at the board’s intention to extend Kettle Park, which, he said, would be a worthwhile piece of work. The St. Clair Beach Improvement Association and the St. Clair Surf Lifesaving Club wrote protesting at the board’s decision to extend the protection wall at St. Clair, and suggesting instead that a series of shallow terraces should be built. The Chairman said that when he was first told of the terraces he was in favour of the scheme, but the city and Harbour Board engineers said that the toe of tho terraces would have to be protected with piles. If piles had to be driven, Mr Wilson said, it would bo preferable to have the wall as proposed. No scour would be caused by the pro-

posed wall, and there would be an apron of stone at its foot to break the force of the waves. It was decided to advise the two organisations that the proposal had been fully considered and that tlm board would act on the engineers’ advice. A letter was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands suggesting

chat the board should take over the Tomahawk Lagoon, as the controlling body had ceased to function.—lt was decided to inspect the area before making a decision.
