Mr J. W. Munro, M.P., was a passeuger by this morning’s express, bound for Wellingtin. _ _ _ Three officers of the N.Z. Staff Corps are at present in Dunedin. Colonel E. T. Rowllings. O.C. Southern Military, District Field Force, and Lieutenantcolonel A. Bongard, M.C., G. 5.0.1, Southern Military District, are here for the purpose of inspecting the training camps at Forbury and at Wingatui, and of going into matters of. policy. Major E. E. Lloyd, chief training officer, Southern Military District, is conducting examinations for first appointments to commissions. Colonel Rowllings and Lieuetnant-colonel Bongard will go on to Invercargill to-morrow. Advice has been received that MajoE R, L. Grant, Captain John Boyd, Lieutenant A. M. Quennell, Second-lienten-auts Bryan Boyd and G. H. Cunningham, Driver E. Paris, Corporal P. O. Geering, and Private A, Feathers (Oamaru) are safe and well.. Driver C L. Moore, of Mornington, who was slightly wounded in Greece, has now recovered. Mr S. E. Field, formerly of Dunedin, has been appointed Public Relations Officer of the Federated Malay States in connection with the War Taxation. Enactment (income tax). He has also been gazetted as a collector of war tax. Mr H. W. Wilson was re-elected chairman of the Taieri River Trust yesterday. The appointment of Cr M. C. Henderson as its representative on the .Dunedin Vocational Guidance Association was confirmed by the City Council last night. It was mentioned at last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union that Mr Julius Dunne, a former treasurer of tho union, now resident in Christchurch, was seriously ill in hospital in Christchurch, and it was decided to. send him a letter of sympathy expressing hopes for his speedy recovery. Tho president (Mr I. Grant), at last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union, expressed tho regret of members at the death of Mr A. Fleury, which took place last week. Mr Grant said that Mr Fleury was a very activa and live member of the Zingari-Rich-mond Football Clu'b, and had been, honoured! by election to life membership. He had been a prominent referee, and was president of the Otago Rugby Referees’ Association at the time of his death. A motion of sympathy with tho relatives was carried. The late Mr Thomas Mark, who collapsed in Parliament Building and died, was born at Waitahuna in 1887, and received his education at the Lawrence District High School. He passed the Public Service examination in 1906, and commenced his career in the service as a cadet in the Post and Telegraph Department in Auckland. In 1308 he was transferred to the secretary’s office of tho department in Wellington, and five years later he made a further move to the office of the Public Service Commissioner, rising through the .various grades to Deputy Public Service Commissioner, and then Joint Commissioner in 1936. He was appointed Commissioner in 1933. Mr Mark represented the Commissioner for sis years before the Public Service Appeal Board, and was a member of the committee, which, iu 1926, regraded tho first division of the Railways Department. He was also on the committee set up to investigate national health insurance , and pensions. For many years he maintained an interest in the activities of friendly societies, and held office in the A.O,F. The Rev. H. A. Mitchell, Presbyterian padre with the forces, who recently re- * turned from service in Fiji, left for the north by the express this morning to enter camp again. Staying at Wain’s Hotel are Mr W. A.
