Election Inconsistencies When Candidates seek support from electors it is expected that their public utterances will be honoured- *’ Citizens " candidates in 1938 election Criticised Labour because of Rate and Tram charges. If Labour were returned, they said, “ Valuations Might Be Bumped Up.” In contrast to their pre-election utterances, they themselves, on assuming office, INCREASED RATES BY 4d IN £ AND SUBSEQUENTLY INCREASED TRAM FARES. VALUATIONS WERE ALSO BUMPED UP BY A RECORD FIGURE FOR ONE YEAR. For lower rates and reduced tram fares, vote Labour.
