BISHOP’S MISTAKE

(Received May 10, at 11.55 a.m.) Sixteen cement manufacturing companies were awarded a total of £1,600 against the Bishop of Birmingham in a slander action arising from a speech in which it was alleged that plaintiffs were curtailing production in order to keep up the price of cement. The bishop gave -no evidence, but counsel on his behalf expressed his unqualified regret for any defamation.
