PETROL RATIONING

CUT IN AUSTRALIA MELBOURNE, May 7. Private motoring has been reduced to 40 miles a week under a new petrol ration scale, details of which were announced by the Minister for Supply, Senator P. A. M. M‘Bride, to-day. The minimum private monthly allow, ance from June 1 is five gallons for 8 horse-power cars and the maximum 11 gallons for cars over 30 horse-power. This ration is half the amount allowed when rationing was introduced in’ October. Motorists at present obtaining an extra ration under “ business and private ” fuel licenses are being cut 20 per cent, and, will be required to answer a questionnaire stating how much they used respectively for business and pleasure.
