MANCHESTER UNITY

The recent meeting of Loyal Kaitangata Lodge was constituted a summoned meeting lor the purpose of electing a permanent 'secretary in place of P.P.G.M. Bro. Tom Middlemass, who has resigned. Bro. Middle'mass has been constantly in office in his •lodge since 1894, and was head of the district in 1921-22, and his retirement from ■office is well earned. N.G. Bro. P. Mudio presided over a splendid attendance. The .newly-appointed secretary, P.G. Bro. H. Conner, was installed in office, with the assistance of P.P.G.M.s Bros. Ransome and Middlomass and P.G. Bro. Welsh. The good wishes of P.P.G.M. Bro. A. Wylie were conveyed to the meeting. Eulogistic reference was made to the retiring secretary by P.G. Bro. Welsh, who, on behalf of the lodge, presented Bro. Middlemass with two fireside chairs as a mark of affection and esteem. The gift was feelingly acknowledged by the recipient. One member was admitted with the usual formalities. ■ Loyal Caversham met as usual under the guidance of N.G. Bro. D. Cook Prov. G.M. Bro. I. H. Boardman and District Officer Bro. L. Hope were introduced to the meeting m their new capacities, and returned thanks for the greeting. V.G. Bro. 'Mowat was congratulated by P.P.G.M. •Bros. Stabb and Robson on his fine report 'of proceedings of the recent district meeting. The attention of members was drawn 'to the projected combined Anzac remembrance to bo held in the Albion Lodge on •Thursday next. An informal “ smoko”' was 'afterwards held. A dance will be held at next meeting. Invitations from Loyal Albion, Hand and Heart, Valley, and Princess Mary Lodges were accepted. Loyal Dunedin Lodge held an unusually good meeting on Thursday evening, P.P.G.M Bro. .1. Cameron presiding. He welcomed the Prov. C.S., the 1.P.P.Q.M., and newly-appointed district officer, Bro. L. Hope. I.P.N.G. Bro. Dick Torrance, who is proceeding to camp, received a splendid send-off. Evidence of his popularity was voiced by a number of his colleagues. Bro. G. A. Prior, of Loyal Pahiatua Lodge, was warmly welcomed, and returned thanks. The circular to members in reference to medical benefits was favourably commented upon. An interesting game of bowls concluded proceedings. At tin meeting of Loyal Mount Wendon Lodge, N.G. Bro. J. W. Paterson presided over A splendid attendance. A report of proceedings at the annual district meeting was received from deputies. Communications were received from a number of members serving with the forces overseas. Members will attend divine service in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 4, and •the annual ball has been fixed for the last week in May, with an invitation to representatives of sister lodges. Sick visitors were thanked for their attendance and reports.
