Bloody Battle In Greece
Germans Throwing In Waves Of Troops New Zealanders Holding Olympus Pass (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copy: 'giit RUGBY, April 18. (Received April 19, at 10.10 a.m.) There is still very little news from Greece, but according to the latest, information in possession of high military quarters in London there has not been a break-through of the BritishGreek line by the Germans. There is, however, no disposition to minimise the seriousness of the fighting now going on along this line. ' The present position has developed as a necessary readjustment from the original disposition, in which the line was held by the Greeks on the left, the Yugoslavs in the centre, and the British on the right. The Germans having penetrated the stubborn Yugoslav resistance so that the centre of the line was endangered, the British left and the Greek right had to fall back and re-establish a complete line. Details of the fighting have not yet been reported, but the spirit of the forces of the Empire is said to be excellent. Experience has once again proved that when British forces meet the Germans on equal terms they have generally got the better of them. The magnificent fighting qualities of the Greek troops have also again been displayed against a more powerfully-equipped invader. Last night's Greek commimique states: "In Western Macedonia there has been no essential change in the situation. On the Albanian front our line has been straightened. In the" course of these movements Klisura and Erseka were evacuated."
