"CSCARITES" IN 'MARYLAND'
One of the finest combinations of talent ever assembled for one picture makes 20th Century-Fox’s technicolour production of ‘ Maryland ’ an entertainment event to which all moviegoers should look forward. To Henry King, director of some of the screen’s greatest hits, went the important task of megaphoning ‘ Maryland.’ Under his watchful eye were paraded the talents of three leading members of the cast who have won “ Oscars.” In addition, five members of the production staff have been honoured, ami so it is not surprising that advance reports have hailed it as being oven greater than ‘ Kentucky.’ Walter Brennan, who was ‘ Kentucky’s ’- academy award-winning star, heads the impressive, oast of ‘ Maryland.’ Always a fine interpreter of character parts, he scores even more solidly in his newest role. Fay Bainter, who won an “ Oscar ” for her brilliant work in ‘Jezebel,’ has a role which should bring her new honours. Ruggles and Marjorie Weaver are two other bright personalities in the cast. Hattie M‘l>aniel, who woman academy award as the lovable “ Mammy ” of ‘Gone with the Wind,’ has a similar role in' ‘ Maryland.’ The roma7ice, colour, and tradition of the proud South have been blended into a powerful story of the picture which soars to a sweeping climax as stout-hearted racing thoroughbreds compete in America’s most spectacular steeplechase, the Maryland Hunt Cup race. . The spectacle of flaming silks flashing against blue sky and green turf, is one that every moviegoer will want to witness. 'w'
