Nominations for the Winter Meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club, to be held on May 10 and 12, close next Thursday at, 5 p.m. To Be Tried Over Hurdles. Green Boa had the track at Riverton to suit him, but did not race up to form, and he is to be given a chance over hurdles at Washdyke next Saturday. Survey Engaged. Survey, who has not appeared in a race since he won the Wellington Steeplechase in July, 1939, has been engaged in the Doncaster Handicap, to be run at Washdyke next Saturday. Lucky Feather. Lucky Feather, winner of the race for apprentice riders on the concluding day oi the Riverton meeting, is reported to be touched in the wind, and is to be operated on before he races again. South Canterbury Meeting. Wingatui-trained horses are well represented in the nominations received for the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting, to be held next Saturday. The handicaps for this fixture are due next Tuesday, and acceptances will close the following day al 9 p.m. For Patriotic Funds. Sydney jockevs have hit upon a novel idea to help the Lord Mayor’s Patriotic and War Fund. A coloured photograph is to be taken of at least 20 jockeys, who will wear their favourite racing colours. , The photographs will bo autographed and then presented to the fund to be raffled. Kept Busy. After racing on the first day of the Riverton meeting, Noko was sent to Beaumont, where he won a double on ' Easter Monday. He was back at Riverton for the third day of that fixture, hut he had lightened up a good deal with the travelling and racing, and ran much below his true form. Lady Adin. Lady Adin was only started once at the Riverton meeting, and won the Novice Handicap on the second day under difficulties. This Paladin—Lady Glanely filly is suffering from a sore on her back which hurts her when saddled up,’and her trainer will not start her again until the trouble has been eliminated. To be Spelled. Boloyna has started 15 times this season for five wins and four seconds. He ran two good races at Riverton, finishing second to Craiglea the first day and Royal Lancer on the second day. He has not been engaged at the South Canterbury meeting, to be held next week, and is to be given a short let-up. Kindergarten, Hector Gray, trainer of Brazen Bold, who was runner-up to Kindergarten in the Auckland Faster Handicap, had no excuses to make for the running of his horse. After the race, Gray said: “ I didn’t think there was a three-year-old colt capable of giving my follow- two stone and a beating .in to-day’s race. Kindergarten is the best three-year-old I have ever seen.” Kindergarten’s Score. The two races Kindergarten won at the Auckland Easter Meeting were worth £1,375 to his owner, and brought his score for the present season to £7,335. Such a large amount has not been won by a horse in the Dominion for many years. Last season Beau Vite, with £5,565, headed the list, of winning horses, and in the previous season Defaulter occupied the same position with £4,515. The Joker at Last. The Joker, winner of the concluding event at Riccarton yesterday, is a four-year-old gelding by Paladin from Attractive Lady, who is also the dam of Lord Nuffield. The Joker, who returned-a dividend of nearly a third of a century, has frequently shown great pace in his work at Wingatui, but had not raced up to his track form. He is trained by P. Shaw for Mr J. A. Brown, of Mosgiel. Rood-looking Gelding. During the Riverton meeting 1 had the opportunity of looking over one of the best shaped and developed two-year-olds that I have ever seen. He is by Solicitor General from Full Fling, the dam of Wild Career and Dark Olga. So far he has only been taught to lead, and was gelded about three weeks ago. He carries the same markings as Wiki Career, but is already bigger than that good winner, and shows more quality. His owner, Mr James Price, has decided to name him Wigs, and considers him easily the most promising youm* one that ho has ever bred. D

Appeal Upheld. An appeal Judged by F, Johnston against the decision of tho Goro Racin~ Club not to award first place to his horse Trevatban m tho Telegraph Handicap was uphold. When tho race was started sonio of the barriers failed to release and several horses had their chances seriously affected. Trevathan won, but tho officials ordered the raco to bo re-run. Tho association was of the opinion that the first contest was despatched to a correct start, and awarded the first prize to Trevatban. In tlie race under notice Koesian end Comeaway finished second and third respectively to Trevatban, and tho place money will have to be paid out to their owners. It was bad luck for the backers of Trevatban and Comeaway as the former would have paid about a score for a win and about a quarter of that for a place, while Comeaway’s backers would have received nearly half a score for a place. Great Autumn Winner. This year’s Great Autumn Handicap winner, Iceland Spar, is a four-year-old gelding by Excitement from Calcito, and was purchased at the 1933 Sydney yearling sales for his present owner, Mr H. S. Williams, by the well-known Riccarton trainer, F. D. Jones. Excitement is an imported sire, by Hurry On, and Calcitcj who is also an imported mare, is by Rock Flint from a Marco mare named Milanaise. ■ Calcito did somo racing in the Dominion before being sold to go to Australia, and won a Trial Plate at Oamaru about 15 years ago. She raced in the colours of the late H. A. Knight, and was also- trained by F. D. Jones. Inconsistent? Mr H. L. Collins, well-known Australian cricket test captain, and for some years a stipendiary steward, tells the following amusing story in the ‘ Sunday Sun ’: —“ 1 remember another amusing experience 1 had as a steward. In a restricted class race—a novice, I think—at a Friday meeting, a particular horse ran last. He hadn’t been backed for anything worth while. Imagine the shock to me as a. steward when, at a Wednesday meeting tho following week, he won well in much stronger company. He had been backed this time, too. We immediately had the connections of tho horse in the stewards’ room, and asked for an explanation of this startling change of form. “ The trainer looked at me. He said: ‘ Now, look here, Mr Collins, not long ago 1 saw you get a beautiful century in the first innings of a test match. The next innings you got a blob. That’s like my norse. We can’t be consistent all the time,’ he added. What could you do with a man like that? ‘Go on,’ the stewards said, ‘ got out of the room, but be careful in the future.’ ” 1
