POLICE COURT
FRIDAY, April IS. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) LICENSING BREACHES. Francis John Fay, licensee of the Criterion Hotel (Mr L. R. Simpson) pleaded guilty to a charge of selling liquor after hours. He Avas fined £lO and costs. Charles Edivard M'Veigh, former licensee of the European Hotel (represented by Mr G. M. Lloyd), pleaded guilty to a similar charge, while a barman, Richard Patrick Murphy, pleaided guilty to a charge of supplying. Each defendant was fined £3 and costs. BREACH OF CENSUS ACT. Henry W. Stewart Avas charged with a breach of the Census and Statistics Act, 1926. . .. Mr W. H. CadAvallader, for the Statistical Department, said defendant,. a garage proprietor, had been called upon for returns, but had failed to supply them. Defendant was fined 20s and costs. CHIMNEY FIRES. Wilfred George Aitken and Leonard Claud Child were each fined 5s and costs for allowing chimneys to catch fire. MOTORING OFFENCES. Offenders against the motoring regulations Avere dealt Avith as follows, the fines and costs being given in parentheses:—John William Aitken, failing to give way to traffic on his right (15s and- costs) ; Rodney Augustine Farry, failing to give Avay to traffic on the right (£2 and costs), no Avarrant of fitness (convicted and discharged) ; George M'Cartney Inglis, driving without care and attention (20s and costs) ; Kathleen Rose Standage, unlighted motor car (convicted and discharged) ; Victoria Eunice Taylor, failing to yield right of Avay on a pedestrian crossing (20s and costs); Allan John Joseph SVard Wilson, failing to keep to right of road (£3 10s and costs) ; Wilton Gilbert Turner, no warrant of fitness and no tail light (5s on each charge and costs). UNLIGHTED CYCLES.
The following were dealt with for riding unlighted bicycles:—Robert Davis (os and costs); Patrick Burnham Fox (5s and costs); Wilfred Day id King (os and costs). For riding a cycle on the right of more than one other cycle Walter Alfred Lawry was fined 5s and costs.
WANDEUIXG STOCK. For allowing cattle to wander Alexander Summerville Murray was fined os and costs. .
