TRADE EXCHANGE
BELGIUM AND RUSSIA PRESUMABLY APPROVED BY NAZIS (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April IG. An agreement has been reached and signed in Moscow within the past few days which the Ministry of Economic Warfare states will go far towards meeting Belgium’s shortage of fats and wheat, and confirm the belief that there is no shortage of food in Europe. Under the agreement a very large quantity of wheat and a very substantial amount of fats will be sold by Russia to Belgium in the next 12 months. The agreement presumably has, been ,-.moved by the Germans. In return for wheat and fats Belgium will supply Russia with machine tools and other manufactured goods. The agreement is regarded as interesting in view of the firm attitude of the British Government adopted in regard to' supplies for Belgium. Germany, who has been holding up stocks for occupied territories in the hope that Britain would lift the blockade, has been forced to allow these precious fats to be purchased from Russia by Belgium. instead of going to Germany herself.
