Mr A. G. Harper, of the Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, who arrived from Invercargill yesterday, left this morning for Timaru and Christchurch, en route to Wellington. Mr A. W. Stables left for Wellington by the midday express to-day. Governor-General Richard Bruuot, special envoy of General de Gaulle to French possessions in the Pacific, has spent several days in Wellington in meeting representatives of the Government. He was accompanied by his aide-de-camp, Captain L. Fatoux, and was to return to Auckland to-day after a short visit to Rotorua. He will leave by the next Pan-American Airways Clipper for New Caledonia. Mr W. J. Embery, Homo Director for Australia and New Zealand of the China Inland Mission, arrived iii Dunedin to-day. Mr J. W. Scurr has consented to offer himself for election to the Otago Hospital Board as the representative of Port Chalmers and the boroughs and counties of Waikouaiti and Waihemo. The resignation of Mr Arthur Grant (Taieri) as a member of the Electrical Committee of the United Wheat'growers was accepted by the Provincial Council of the Farmers’ Union yesterday, arid Mr A. J. Cameron (West Taieri) was nominated as his successor. A motion of appreciation of the services of Cr D. J. S. Robertson was passed at the meeting of the Peninsula County Council yesterday. Cr Robertson has been a member of the Road Board for 38 years, and is not seeking re-election. Dr 0. C. Mazengarb, of Wellington, who arrived in Dunedin last night, conferred with members of the National Party committees. Ho left by the first express this morning to attend similar meetings in Oaraaru and Timaru before returning to Wellington. Dr Kenneth I. Woodward, who practised at Takaka, Nelson, for 17 years, died this week at his home at Waiuku, North Island. Dr Woodward was a' graduate of Otago University and after leaving Takaka several years ago acquired a farm at Waiuku. At the annual meeting of the Mosgiel Association Football Club reference was made by the chairman (Mr A. Ives) to the loss the game had sustained by the deaths of Messrs T. Ruddiman and W. Fullerton. Both had been_ stalwarts of the game, and after retirement had taken a keen interest in the younger players. Sympathy was also extended to Mr A.
